APRIL IS EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS MONTH - Secure Your Household Breakables Before It’s Too Late
The latest discovery that downtown Los Angeles is
sitting right on top of a major fault gives cause for concern, but residents
can have peace of mind and protect their families with a little effort and
minimum expense.
It’s common knowledge that California is one of the world’s most active earthquake regions, particularly the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas, although people who live with this constant threat of quakes can be prepared.
Trevco, a California company, has developed a range of earthquake safety products that are designed to secure household possessions and prevent them from toppling over, breaking and turning into projectiles during a tremor. These products are marketed under the brand name of QuakeHold! and are available through America’s leading hardware chains.
Trevco president, Dran Reese, said the first step on the road to preparedness was to keep household escape routes clear and unsecured possessions such as TVs, glassware and furniture from crashing to the floor and blocking the way.
“Shattered glass and falling objects are the major causes of injury in an earthquake, so we have developed a range of fasteners to secure furniture, electronics and collectibles. Application of QuakeHold! is easy and can cost as little as $4. In fact, the contents of an entire home can be secured in place for no more than $50.
“Our message to people is don’t wait for an earthquake to jolt you into reality. Remember that earthquake preparedness is as easy as going to your local hardware store.”
Ms Reese said that Trevco also marketed a new Survival Kit in preparation for potential Y2K problems. The kit contained enough food, water and other supplies for one person for three days.
“We lived through the Simi Valley, Northridge and Whittier quakes and that’s what prompted us to develop our full range of safety fasteners. Our earthquake products are tried and proven and we believe they’re second to none.
“We set out to make earthquake preparedness affordable and easy to understand because we believe it’s important for everyone in the community to be prepared.”
